Butterfly Garden

As children, we often went to play at the Butterfly Garden a few blocks from our house. It was there that the inspiration began. My aunt would just let us run and chase the butterflies for hours. My cousin and I learned to feed them fruit. Their favourite were the ripe, juicy guayabas. Sugar made their wings flutter faster. But while they ate, they were still. This was our time to come up close to their beautiful, intricate wings and bodies. Then off to home and draw.

The Gift

“The Gift” symbolizes the delicate exchange that defines a relationship. The use of repurposed materials mirrors the way relationships are formed from both past experiences and the new possibilities we create together. It is about the act of giving ourselves to one another—our time, our affection, and our vulnerabilities—creating something beautiful and meaningful in the process.

A feast of friends

“A Feast of Friends” represents the beauty and complexity of friendship. Each bird in the piece symbolizes a different personality, a unique voice within the community, and yet, they all come together harmoniously. I used repurposed jewelry to reflect the idea that we all bring our individual stories—our own pasts, brokenness, and brilliance—into our friendships. These pieces, which once had a different purpose, are now part of something new and meaningful, just like how we contribute to each other’s lives.
